Had six thousand pounds of quickrete on a trailer. Went to unhook said trailer and the tongue bound on the ball. Put upwards pressure on the jack and tapped the tongue with a hammer. Tongue popped off, trailer shifted sideways as the jack failed at life. Jack stem peeled off the reach on the trailer and those 6000 lbs of cement plus gravity sent the six inch channel iron reach racing for my foot. I jumped back but as I mentioned it was rolling towards me. Luckily only caught the tip of my second toe.

Not sure how but it didn't crush it. It smashed my boot hard enough to split the rubber sole. Tore off my toenail and as I ripped my foot out from under, the weight dug the nail into the toe and cut all the hide off the tip of my toe. Hurt like hell but I'm damn lucky I can still count to twenty because it could have been half my foot or worse.

Wow, lucky is right. I wonder how that would have panned out if the boots were steel toe. Not saying the weight wouldnt have crushed it...but it might have been less of a injury.

I feel your pain. I was moving my girlfriend out of her apartment and dropped an older tube tv on my big toe while wearing flip flops. It hurt like a son of a bitch!

Ouch, looks painful. I was using a hammer style stapler one time and put the whole staple thru my thumbnail. That sucked

Man you were very fortunate worse didn't happen. You escaped a major injury for sure. Losing a toenail is a pittance once the pain lessens. Hope the nail re-grows normally.

Looks to me like a failed job at painting your toe nail:poke:

Lucky for you though. That would do a hell of a job if it hit the top of your foot.

I'd think that a steel toe boot would have provided 100% protection in a case like that, I took the toe out of one, and with a 16 lb sledge hammer hit it as hard as I could 3 times before it shattered like glass...

but your very lucky that you weren't hurt MUCH worse than you were..

I have to disagree with the steel-toe theory. I have no idea what the trailer weighs but it is heavy. Not your normal car trailer. Twin 7k lb eight bolt axles, six inch channel iron framework, 4" channel iron crossmembers, full treadplate floor. Then stack (stupidly, not done by me) 6,000 lbs of concrete forward of the load center between the axles and the tongue. The weight of the two combined coupled with the downward velocity courtesy of gravity would have had any steel toe giving up the ghost. The only thing that saved me from a far worse fate was help from above and a quick bit of reaction. Honestly, if my foot had been a quarter inch farther back, I would have not a mark on me. If I had been an inch closer, I'd have lost all of the toes on my right foot.
