Skip shift is to promote gas savings..... Unless you hit a certain RPM in first it makes you go to 4th instead of 2nd-3rd to help with gas....

The Red car with Black accents is so far the best looking Boss IMO.

The black car with orange makes me :nonono: congrats!!

I like the black one with red

lol @ basically the same car...
Here's what I mean......directly from Ford themselves......

"Despite all those modifications, what's most interesting is what doesn't change. Compared to the Mustang GT's standard version of the 5.0-liter V8, the Boss 302's compression ratio is apparently unchanged at 11.0:1 (and still "estimated" according to Ford). Valve diameters stay at 37mm on the intake side and 32mm on the exhaust, and valve lift specs remain at 12mm intake and 11mm exhaust. The Boss 302 engine is more powerful, but it's not a radical revision of the Mustang GT version of the same engine. Ford isn't even claiming a change from the manual-transmission-equipped Mustang GT's 17 mpg in the city/26 mpg on the highway EPA mileage ratings despite the Boss 302's standard 3.73:1 final-drive ratio."

My son has an '11 Mustang GT with 3:73s and Brembos and quite frankly, they drive very much the same when the Boss is in standard mode. We all know about the upgraded internals in the engine but really all those improvements are only going to come to light when the "TracKey" is engaged.

The heads are CnC'd and modified to except the higher lift cams. Plus all the suspension changes, removal of sound deadening, exhaust, and a whole list of other things. A little different I know, I will have one in a few weeks.

True but not things that have a big impact in the standard driving mode

he paid for it. he can drive it like he stole it if he wants.

as long as its not unsafe. ive learned from actually racing that driving fast on the street is slow compared to driving on a track and its more dangerous.

so, yea he can drive it like he stole it til the cops put him in the can, the judge takes the license and insurance man takes is bank.

be a grown up. its not the fast and the furious.

all the time? maybe its just me, but i dont see a reason to drive it on the street in other than standard mode. thats why they call it track key. am i wrong?

Yup, you sure are.

You don't have to be full throttle to enjoy improved performance. What, never had a hotrodded car with a big cam you used as a daily driver? Sounds like you don't need a Track KEY, you need a track CAR. That way you can still enjoy your Prius on the street. :poke:

While we won't know for sure until we get our hands on our cars and TracKey from what I've read I think you're right. Sure there will be times when you'll want to use TK on the street but for most situations you may not want to. BTW rumor has it that when TK is used there's a message on the dash that states "for track use only". ;-)

You get to look forward to this soon.

Having heard the Boss' idle with the RedKey, I wouldn't want to use any other key. Even better when you remove the side exhaust baffles. The car is incredible.

The Boss is hands down the best Mustang Ford has EVER built. I've driven every Mustang they have, and the Boss is where its at.

i have a track car. the track key is for the race track. it does say for track use only. right? i drive the f350 that i use to haul my race car. i suppose this is an unpopular view and maybe i misunderstand the value of using the track key on a drive to work in the morning, but i dont need to go zero to 60 in 4.2 seconds in a 40mph zone.

Great......so when you get yours, you don't have to use the TracKey on the street.

Ok, so how does it "make" you go into 4th? When you are moving the shifter, can you not put it into the 2 slot? Or do you put it into 2nd, but it is really in 4th?

Sorry, i'm not up to speed on the new manual automatics. Sounds like a bunch of crap to me though, and makes me wonder about relinquishing my hold on an actual REAL manual transmission car :-/

BTW - I like the black LS. The red / orange accents get your attention.

It's a solenoid that prevents shifting into those gears.

Exactly.

If I had the Boss, I may "accidentally lose" the standard key...

On a side note, my neighbor took delivery of theirs (Laguna Seca) a few days ago.

Went for a ride and hit a 120 mph limiter? Can anyone confirm this? He was pretty embarassed.

Guess where the brand new, collectible, rare car is? At a tuner.... go figure.

I guess if you have money to burn...

To each his own. If I had that car, I would not touch it. At least for a while... lol

Without the ability to use the TracKey, the car cannot reached its potential.....its just a 5.0 GT with a lot of upgrades. Once the beast is unleashed using the "Red Key", you will understand why this is the best Mustang ever.....

just a gt with upgrades? its like you think the car is all engine. as is the case with any road course car much of the special value of the car is the handling package. right?

It's a true manual transmission. Skip shift is nothing new been in the corvette and F/bodies since around 1997/8. Like stated a solenoid locks out the gear and forces you to select another gear unless a certain RPM and throttle position is reached. All in the name to get a bump in fuel mileage. They make kits that eliminate the "skip shift"
