okay so if it was to you what route would you go???

A friend is selling me a white 96 cobra with a loud knocking noise on high rpms(needs rebuil) with a t56 and 4:10s in the back, with catback. Other than that its all stock, nice all black interior! For $3k still original owner

what would be cheaper build the terminator or build the sn95???

I would want to go with strong internals for some good boost! I would like to go with a twin screw set up on the sn95!!!

What would you do??? Post up pros and cons from both sides and how would theY compare on the price!

thanks in advanced

What kind of build are you talking about for the termy compared to the s95? The weakest link in the termy is the piston's are they are still rated to 850hp, change those out and you can safely get close to 1000hp. but if this is a street car/DD, there is no need to go above 650 or so. so I guess the answer to your question is: its cheaper to build the termy since its already built... But if you have money to kick around get the S95 and turn it into a track car, either drag or corners whatever your fancy is.

i don't really wanna go with a crazy set up probably like 550-600rwhp but with good suspention and still be on the safe side on the motor! I don't wanna stress anything out in any way!

the termy will be fine in that HP range, all you have to do for that lvl is just new S/C, like whipple or KB and of course the fuel delivery so 4.5 grand or so and you can have a 600hp+ termy. the stock suspension just needs some stiffening and it will be fine for that range, read the Q&A's and Faq's here: Full Tilt Boogie Racing.

yea thats what i had in mind! Thanks for the input!

I should've asked the question a lil diff. Basically what i wanna know is how expensive can it get to upgrade the sn95 to get in that hp range with the right suspension! And what exactly would it need?

That I dont know but if i had to guess i would say at least double the price of what it would take for the termy. You would have to either build the existing s95 motor or buy a short/long block already built. Modular Mustang Racing built long block's here range frorm 4400-4600. their short block range from 2300 - 2600 for the hp range you are talking about. you are still talking about fuel delivery, s/c, suspension, etc, etc on top of these prices. If you have the extra cash make it a project car.

if cost for the build is important and you are mechanicaly incline you can re-use the block and crank in the 96 cobra and buy a nice set of rods and pistons for about 1000 dollars. get the heads inspected and re-done and slap a kb on there and make the power you want for much less than buying a 03-04 cobra and modding it.

His first sig shows he already has a 460hp 03 termy, thats what i was basing my suggestions off of, but if its the case he doesnt have it any more then yes by all means the route you suggested is cheaper.

termy termy termy... jesus your makin me sick

Yes, please stop.

Ask the SN95 guys in there section - they will have the exact plan and cost.

As far as a 550-600hp build on a TERMINATOR, it's as simple as adding a twin screw and boost-a-pump (going cheap but adequate, dual GT pumps better). The engine internals are already built for your power level and more so there is no need to do anything there. There are a couple of things to do drivetrain wise but the cost is minimal (IRS cover, 26 spline input shaft done with clutch change) as well as the usual subframe connectors, ect. Suspension-wise the TERMINATOR is very good. Most change out the factory springs for aftermarket (to lower) and call it a day. If you look around a TERMINATOR with a twin screw and all the supporting mods I mentioned, they can be had for ~$17k more or less. Compare that to an SN95 build and then make the call.

this is the deal, i had a 03 cobra which is in my sig. , but I sold it to my brother.

But it has a problem with it, which im not too sure what it is, but if i took a guess i think its the driver side head. With that being said, i don't know in what condition the internals are in(pistons or even piston walls)

another thing i noticed is when i go ful throttle on the freeway it cuts off kinda like a studder/hessitant?

And my brother said if he fixes what ever is wrong with the car to the point where the car is back to normal driving condition, that he would want a good 22-23k for it!

But if i get it i still have to buy the twin screw and tune it and any other additional things!

Trust me i would much perfer a terminator over a sn95, i use to own a 96 black cobra and it was fun, but the terminator has better looks/interior and its easy to mod for more hp!!!

You do realize your in the Terminator section correct? Most all of us own Terminators and are going to vote for the...you guessed it...Terminator?

To hell with that, if the SN95 is as clean as you say it is and the comparison is between buying it and building it versus buying another terminator and building it, you can get the SN95 done for half.

Say for good arguments sake you find an 03 with decent mileage for $18,000. Fuel system and S/C, $5,000, and then you have no traction, so throw in another $500-$1,000 for suspension.

-OR-

SN95: $3,000
Coyote crate engine, 03/04 engine, or a sick built 5.4, etc $8,000-$10,000 with install and upgrades. Throw the MM book at it with a mid or upper level track pack, so maybe $3,000, and you are still under the terminator cost. If the SN95 is that clean, I'd pick it up for that price. Just my $0.02.

Thank you! this is what I was looking for! I know its the terminator section but just because you are a super fan of a Terminator doesn't mean that you have to reffer me to an Terminator! trust me im a big fan of Terminators I use to own one for almost 3 years and deffinately want to buy another one again! but its not easy to go and spend big money now that I have a lil 1.5 year old son! and let me say I don't make a whole lot of money!

After all of that what is it worth? If that matters then Terminator is the answer. I think it is a better investment. Not that either are great from that perspective, but that should also have at least some bearing on the decision.

If you are talking about tthe termy having a hessitation at WOT, it is most likely a plug problem, I had the same thing happen to me when i went to a 2.76 pulley, just change plugs and different plug gap and it should clear it up.
