Untill you had a wreck and they discovered you had been comitting fraud. They would likely not cover your damages and drop you like a hot potatoe
Fraud? I give my insurance company my VIN and they bill me accordingly. Now if they ever asked what was under the hood, and I lied about it, that's entirely different.

Saleens used to start out life as a V-6. Back in the early nineties, a friend who had a Saleen was using the same insurance company as I was. His car was the same price as my wife's V-6 coupe. No fraud involved. Cost was based on how the VIN decoded.

Fraud are you serious? what fraud? the guy isnt riviting a VIN plate from a 03Cobra on his v6 and then insuring the car as a cobra, if anyone followed the train of thought you have then half of the mustang owners out there are comitting fraud, how many gt's have a saleen body kit and rims? if he wrecks the car they will give him what the cars actual VIN value is. and if he wants he can have the car appraised and then his insurance will cover the parts he adds to the car. just like when you add rims or a stereo. there will be no fraud and no hot potatoes

IMO it's worth just buying a Cobra. With that said, if you're good with finding parts, you can get all the body panels for about 1,400. It's never going to be a cobra though, and unless your goal is to make other people think you own a cobra when you really do not, you won't be satisfied with just the body.

it doesn't matter how you cut it, it IS fraud. you are paying rates on a 6 banger when you have a high performance 8 cyl which costs more to insure. tell you what, you call your insurance rep and ask them if they will cover an at fault accident when you have defrauded them out of the difference in premiums. We have some insurance guys on the board that could also probably answer the question. While it may not be illegal, insurance companies don't like it when you do things like this, and morally it says you have no integrity.

dude the OP is only talking about changing the exterior parts, he doesn't wanna swap a V8 into his car. Its a purely cosmetic dream of his to look like a terminator.

Do not put the cobra badges on it.

If you've wanted to own a cobra forever then why are you putting cobra body panels on it? It is NOT a cobra...you are still driving a V6 around with a body kit on it.

So what are you gonna tell someone when they say "Hey man, nice cobra! What's it like having one?" I know damn sure you're not gonna tell the guy it's a V6 with cobra body panels on it...they will look at you like "WTF?"

We need fordsvtfan in here to confirm it's not a crime. If it isn't it should be.

You think we don't like it....go ask the Z06 guys what they think about guys with regular C6's how they feel about cloning a Z06. They are out for blood...guys who clone cobras have it EASY when people downtalk them

WOW why do people get all butt hurt about what others do to their OWN car?!? and on it being fraud what about a cobra with a whipple, KB, or turbo. Isn't that fraud because the car has way more power than it was stock. how many old Fox body 4cly out there have been converted to V8's. Hell most of the mustangs being driven are committing fraud since they have aftermarket performance parts on them. give the guy a break and let him do what he wants. he knows about the cost now. Also I've seen a couple clones on here that are better than probably 75% of the REAL Cobras.

I work for a body shop and we have alot of customers asking for 03/04 parts . When i changed my 99 cobra over i had to purchase parts through ford and even at my discount it was alot and now parts went up in price. There is however some aftermarket companies that sell the 03/04 bumpers and the quality is great, alot better than before . Keystone automotive is one company that we deal with and the bumpers we have gotten were all perfect. Dont get me wrong i always would rather have OEM but this may be another option . See what your body shop recommends and what they can get . Also dont buy the stuff off of ebay there are alot of reman bumpers out there that suck.

too bad you were not in the area or i could hook you up

we just did a gt and used :

Keystone 03/04 bumpers you can fill in the cobra logo if that bothers you .
OEM Used side skirts
Oem Used hood
OEM New side vents
Painted the GT Mirrors body color
and put a saleen wing on

and painted the whole car and it came out awsome

Other options are Saleen and roush kits . But those take alot more prep and money

Fyi op, a guy just bought a ghettoed out cobra south of ten grand on here, and with a few simple part swaps had it back to looking fine. If u mod your gt, the resale will be lower, putting you further away from a cobra. May want to just keep your eye peeled for that crazy good deal, especially if u r willing to drive for a distance to get it.

I think it has more to do with how you go about your car, and the swap. There's a guy on here (Cobra Territory) who has a BAB GT, that is Terminator swapped (exterior wise) and I've never heard one bad thing about his car, or anyone hating on him for it, because it's clean, done right, and he doesn't claim it to be something it's not. I myself wanted a 03/04 Cobra like you, but I wanted a low mile car (30k or less) in stock mint condition and couldn't find one on my 20 year old college budget. I was lucky enough to come across a beautiful 01 Cobra in my price range, with super low miles, and bought that instead. Around the spring of last year I finished the complete 03/04 exterior swap on my car. Many would never know it is a 01 Cobra if I never told them. The interior is just about finished as far as that swap goes, just waiting on a local guy to sell me his front seats..and the Blower swap should be done sometime this year as well. All said and done over 2 years I will have my own "Terminator" that I put together over time, since I couldn't afford to buy one up front like I wanted to two years ago.

Here's a rundown of what's visually different between your car and a 03/04 Cobra

Front Fascia
Rear Bumper
Decklid
Spoiler
Sideskirts
Side Vents
Two-Piece Folding Mirrors
Heat Extractor Hood
Headlights
Fog Lamps
Front Seats
Rear Seats
Center Console
Gauge Cluster

In the end, it's your car..if that's something you want to do, go for it.

No.. you'll have a 01 cobra with another cars parts. Not a terminator. You'll never have a terminator with a 01 cobra.

Apparently all the people putting another cars parts on their car and then claiming it's that car.

I've never claimed my car to be anything that it's not, but it's my car and I'm pretty damn happy with it, so it is what it is. Isn't it funny how the "fake terminators" (ie: Teal Terminator, Boss 32V, Cobra Territory, My car) end up turning out nicer than most real ones.

My 01 Cobra looks better than most 03/04s so I'm pretty content with that, plus I have a really big dick, so that keeps me happy.
