So, I bought my first mustang (moving from GM family) 2011 kona blue GT.

Pop the hood to show my buddy the new 5.0 and notice this tube from air box to firewall. once upon the time i heard someone say that is for the passanger compartment to hear more engine sound...

is this for real? I mean...I love the car, but if I want to hear the motor, I get CAI and loud exhause instead of this tube.

I think new 5.0 is great except the gay little tube.

So far, few of CAI I have seem have the place connect that tube.

Anyone know where can i get the CAI without that tube connection?

Thanks

Yes. It's there to "pump" engine noise into the cabin. The car is super quiet and without it you'd hear very little. In side it are these little foam pieces that can be taken out and make it louder. I did it, but it sounded like poo. Now I have Flowmasters on it and it sounds much better. It's a nice balance between the intake noise of that tube and the exhaust.

I'm not sure how that would sound. You're only hearing the pulse of the intake and not so much of the entire engine noise. I'm sure it'd help bring the noise of a blower though.

OP, the tube is there because without it the passenger compartment is so isolated that you can't hear the engine.

Try pulling it and plugging both holes, you'll see what I mean.

The JLT CAI comes with a 'cap' so that you can eliminate the tube to the passenger compartment if you want to.

As others have said you would not hear much of anything even with the exhaust, the new mustangs are that quiet to the outside. I think its a great idea, since you get the hear the sound from under the hood but it still keeps the rest of the road noise out unlike the camaros and mustangs from the 80/90's.

If you take the tube away you will hear more road noise/less motor and if you plug it you will not hear much of anything.

It sounds like you dont like the tube but like the results. If this is the case ignore it and dont show it to anyone!

I see. I guess I am just going to leave it alone.

BTW, does 2011 GT500 has driver excitement tube?

No it doesn't. You wouldn't get the same type or frequency of sound because you would get pulses from the blower instead of the individual cylinders.

The induction tube on the GT is actually a really good idea. The concept may not look very "Macho", but by providing just the right balance of sound frequencies to the driver's ear, it makes a huge improvement in the QUALITY of sound.

Want an example of macho looks, loud volume and horrible sound quality? Go check out some of the Ricers running around with 6" exhaust tips on their 2.0L four cylinders.

The sonic enjoyment that comes with a precision engineered performance car is about much more than sheer volume. It is about balance, tone, and frequency. The 2010 and newer Mustang GTs are the best sounding stock Mustangs ever built for a reason... Ford has a very talented group of audio engineers who understand the science of sound.

Is this the same lsp408 that had the G8 and hung out on Charlie's board?

If it is, a few of us have traded the G8s on 5.0s too. Come back over to Charlie's, we have a Mustangs and Other Cars sub-forum now.
