Hey everyone. It has been a minute since I have been on here so to everyone knew, good day! And to those who know me from before, hey hey. But I wanted to share my experience on something I did with my 2018. Recently made a swap from the Edlebrock E-force 2650 TVS to the Whipple Gen 5 3.0L Twin-Screw on my Mustang. And before I hear both sides of ‘why” or “good”, I want to give a real story behind this. This isn’t a bash or complaint. This was a honest change and being I have ran both systems I can offer honest feedback.
When I picked up the E-force, I went full-retard on it with options. Stage 2, larger throttle body and 8-rib upgrade with a 15% OD balancer. But the issue I ran into right away was that I only did injectors and a fuel pump swap as...
I know that title may be a bit harsh, but if you read our review of the somewhat lackluster 2019 Edge ST you’ll understand its meaning. That version of the Edge was marketed as the first SUV from Ford Performance. Other than the nice styling, that car was a let-down. Ford really needed to do something special to redeem their efforts to produce a true performance SUV. Enter the 2020 Ford Explorer ST.
Let me get this out of the way right up front. I was extremely excited to see that the newest version of the venerable Ford Explorer was returning to a Rear-Wheel-Drive based architecture. In my humble opinion, RWD is simply superior from a driving dynamics standpoint than a FWD design. For the ST model, the Ford Performance engineers took advantage of this...
The 2020 Super Duty Tremor has certainly piqued the interest of the SVTP Community. Not since the introduction of the original SVT F-150 Raptor have we seen this much interest in a new Ford truck, and there’s good reason for it. The Tremor (a badge that Ford has been known to dust off from time to time) delivers on the desire for a more muscular and off-road capable package than the Super Duty has ever been equipped with. We’ll have a complete review of the Tremor package in the coming weeks, but today we wanted to focus on a very special truck.
What we have here is the very first 2020 F-250 Tremor 7.3L V8 with a 5 Star 93-Octane tune. It’s tuned with HP Tuners software and loaded in with an nGuage. The driveability of this tune is very similar to the 87 Octane 5 Star...
If I had to distill my impressions of the new Ford Ranger pickup truck into a concise phrase it would have to be, it defies expectations. The latest iteration of Ford’s Iconic Ranger has been available for about a year now, and in that time I have seen review after review pan it. Most complain about the ride and styling. My only guess for reasoning behind those reviewer’s claims is they aren’t really truck guys.
In my humble opinion, as someone who has not been without at least one Ford Truck in his fleet for the last twenty years, our 2019 Ranger test truck is the best riding and handling non-specialty truck Ford currently builds. Ride quality is certainly subjective so your mileage may vary, but I came away very impressed. I like a truck to ride like a truck; firm but not...
Have you ever had the feeling that a car company has been listening to your complaints, and finally builds a car to shut you up? Well that’s pretty much what just got dropped off on my doorstep. What we have here is a Need for Green 2019 Ford Mustang GT with a manual transmission, the Performance Pack Level 2 Suspension, Active Exhaust, Recaros, and not much else. No leather, no navigation, no 30 pounds of power seat motors, no bullshit, and no excuses. This car is what a Mustang is meant to be, simply and smile inducing.
If you guys caught my review of the 2019 Mustang Bullitt a few months ago, you probably remember how much I liked that car. It’s one of the first non-Ford Performance built S550 Mustangs that I’ve really liked. However, the Bullitt...
We are on the cusp of getting a very significant Mid-Model Refresh of the current Ford Super Duty trucks. Introduced for the 2017 model year, the Duty that we recently had the pleasure of driving represents a massive leap forward over the previous generation (whose cab design dated back to the Late-90s). It featured a fully-boxed frame, a brand-new aluminum body (now shared with the F-150), and some beefed up drivetrain components. Needless to say, this new generation of Super Duty is a is lightyears ahead of the previous models in terms of comfort and capability.
That's exactly the experience we recently had in our 2019 Ford F-250 Limited test truck. Ford sort of dropped this one on us out of nowhere. We weren't expecting...
The 2019 Ford Edge ST is interesting. It is advertised as the first SUV from Ford Performance, and a number of ST and Ford Performance badges are in place to make sure that you don’t forget it. Marketing campaigns play a big part in most new car sales, but they have traditionally been absent from SVT and Ford Performance products. That is certainly not the case with the Edge ST. Ford threw some serious coin behind the TV commercials and web ads for this SUV. So what makes this car different? More on that later.
We didn’t have as much time with the Edge ST as we have had with the past few new Ford’s we’ve reviewed, but we did have enough time to get a good idea what this car is all about. Over all, it’s a decent car. We liked the styling, and feel that it is fairly...
There’s a lot of one-liner descriptions you could give our 2019 F-150 Platinum F-150 test truck equipped with the 3.0L V6 Powerstroke Turbo-Diesel; better late than never, finally, and about damn time all come to mind. Ford truck lovers have been begging for a diesel powered F-150 in the US market for as long as I can remember. Various oil-burning options have been available over the years south-of-the-boarder, but domestic buyers have been left out in the cold until now. Enter the not as new as you think 3.0 Powerstroke, making 250HP@3250RPM and 440TQ@1750RPM (actual rear wheel numbers in the dyno video below).
The F-150’s new V6 diesel has actually been offered on US shores for a few years in various Land Rover and Jaguar models, and even...
So this review is a little out of the ordinary for SVTP, but weird is fun so here we are. A few weeks ago, one of our contacts at Ford called us up and said he had something different for us to try. He happens to know that I've been itching to get my hands on a 2020 Ford Transit Connect with the new 1.5L Diesel engine. While those are quite available to the public just yet, he thought I might enjoy the 2019 Ford Transit Connect Cargo Van you see here. He was correct.
I have to admit, this little truck was the first panel/cargo van that I ever had the opportunity to spend much time with. I've always been more of a 'truck' guy. The first thing I noticed is that the lack of rear side windows made me change the way I drive. I was accustomed to giving a quick...
I’m not sure how to start this review. Normally I’d have some pithy anecdotes and a couple jokes, probably a jab at Dodge owners, to kick things off. Not this time though. What I have to say about the 2019 Bullitt Mustang is pretty simple. This car restored my faith in new Mustangs. I know that’s a pretty big statement, but it’s true.
You guys probably remember that a few years ago we picked up two 2015 Mustangs. One was an auto GT that received a Whipple blower, full Kooks exhaust, and custom tuning from Livernois Motorsports. The other was a manual EcoBoost with a full Kooks exhaust, Airaid Intake, MGW Shifter, and Livernois tuning. Before those cars we had a 2012 Yellow Blaze GT with a Magnuson blower. I liked all those cars. “Liked” is the key word. I didn’t love any of them...
Saying that Ford Performance's F-150 Raptor is a serious off-road capable machine is nearly a cliché at this point. Aside from a minor amount of competition from Ram's Power Wagon, no other factory pickup comes close to matching the Raptor's trail thrashing bona fides. And while The Truck Formerly Known as Dodge is quite impressive; the Raptor can basically perform 90% of its low-speed feats as well, if not better, than it can. However, the Ram can't even come close to matching the Raptor's high-speed performance. None of this is earth shattering news though. We've all seen and read those stories for nearly a decade now. You know what you don't see a lot of people talking about? - What it's like to have a S-Crew Raptor as a...
True Forged’s new Jacking Pads are one of those “well duh” tools that everyone needs in their toolboxes. If you own an S-197 Mustang you know what a pain it can be to properly jack your car up without crushing the pinch weld seam (Ford’s recommended area from which to lift the car). True Forged owner Steve Medina saw the opportunity here to develop a product to make Mustang modder’s lives a little easier. After a few prototypes and a couple of revisions Steve@TF has brought to market the True Forged Jacking Pad...
