Burnt up cooling fan plug

Fans won't come on, so I checked the plug. 2 of the pins are scorched. Of course this part isn't in stock at any auto parts store, is there another option? Resistor from a different year work?

What causes this a poor connection from the start?

1) A poorly engineered part.
2) Fan drawing too much current (faulty motor)
3) Idling too long with AC on in the AZ desert (for example)
4) Poorly fitting connection(s)
5) Bad Ground

Take your pick.. Seems like many things can cause this, but it all circles back to #1
